First published in 1833 the Oxford Democrat, is the longest published newspaper in Oxford County, Maine. The Democrat carried local, state and national news, a prominent agricultural column, death, marriage and probate notices, classified advertisements, poetry and general educational pieces. The paper featured a full page of correspondence pieces that delivered the news from over 37 Oxford County towns including Bethel, Denmark, Rumford and Albany. In 1934, the Oxford Democrat and The Norway Advertiser were merged to create The Advertiser-Democrat which is still in publication to this date.
