Abstract
Entries include brief biographical information, years of letters typed on plain paper and handwritten in brown ink from a Portland, Maine, journalist who was forced to sell his car and whose work was published in American Short Story 1934, a handwritten biographical letter and biographical letters that drift from the personal to lumber camps and rodeo tales, a work of art by "Bill" Clifford Hoople, Stone's service buddy and magazine illustrator, showing "Leete Stone" lighting his pipe with a match, concern in 1935, that his Freeport, Maine, home could be susceptible to theft or fire caused Stone to offer an old shotgun, Indian peace pipe, and a volume of Americana belonging to his grandfather to the State of Maine, ten years later when fire burned his library, Stone's handwritten request returned two copies his book home, a typed letter from Times Square on Hotel America stationery presenting Stone's first published writing since the fire, and a plain postcard from Stone in New York City thank the Maine State Library for placing his materials in the Maine Author Collection.
