First published in 1964, "The Bulletin" is a biannual journal of the Maine Archaeological Society. The most recent three years of publication are available by membership. Digitized copies of this publication are made available here with permission from the organization. For more information, visit the Maine Archaeological Society website.
The Maine Archaeological Society shall promote archaeological awareness through education and publication, and encourage archaeological conservation. The Maine Archaeological Society does not endorse the sale, purchase, or barter of archaeological finds that result in the commodification of artifacts. The Maine Archaeological Society encourages a safe and supporting environment for all regardless of age, cultural background, gender identity, sexuality or disability.
Since the 1960s, archaeologists have grown in their understanding that doing archaeological research incurs ethical obligations to descendent communities. Perhaps nowhere is this shifting understanding more apparent than in publication and presentation practices. As a result, some past Maine Archaeological Society Bulletins contain images of Wabanaki ancestral remains that the Maine Archaeological Society would not now publish.
