Description

Materials pertaining to the meetings of the Maine Acadian Culture Preservation Advisory Commission held in St. Agatha on October 17, 1997 and in Lille on February 6, 1998. Richard Dumont chaired both meetings.

In St. Agatha, Commission members acknowledged the passing of fellow member Claude "Blackie" Cyr. Bruce Jacobson and Ken Olson reported on nonprofit efforts in the St. John Valley. Jacobson followed up on the speaker series, the brochure, and cooperative agreements. Don Cyr also spoke. The guest speaker was Charlotte Cormier of Moncton, New Brunswick, who presented on Acadian song traditions. Dumont invited nominations for the six vacancies on the Commission.

In Lille, Dr. Adrien Berube presented on "Ten Facts about Madawaskan Culture to Be Taken with a Grain of Salt." Don Cyr and Bruce Jacobson presented on promotional efforts, upcoming speakers, and liability insurance for the Maine Acadian Heritage Council.

No summary report is available for the meeting held in Madawaska on December 12, 1997. The following agenda was circulated ahead of the meeting:
- Review and approval of the summary report of the meeting held October 17, 1997;
- A talk by Stephen White of Moncton, New Brunswick, on "Acadian Genealogy";
- Report of the National Park Service Maine Acadian project staff;
- Opportunity for public comment;
- Proposed agenda, place, and date of the next Commission meeting.

The attached file also encloses a Maine Acadian Heritage newsletter published in the St. John Valley Times and correspondence between Bruce Jacobson and Bernette Albert about the forthcoming brochure.
