1890c MEC Portland Menu & Fare Schedule Broadside

Description

Before Dining Cars were fully deployed across railroad lines many large stations had restaurants. Note the * beside the town or city which denotes stations with eating facilities....

I liked the following two offers....:

- "WOODBURY GRAND is one of our leading specialties in our Cigar Department under our own private brand."

- "We have in connection a first-class Livery Stable. Hacks, Coupes, Single and Double Teams. Special attention given to tourists wishing to see the City."

Back in the late 1950s my father took me to supper at the restaurant in the station at Bangor just before the end of passenger service in 1960. There was no stable as I recall but I expect you could have bought a cigar...! /DL
