Description

The submarine Albacore, first launched at the Navy Yard in August 1953. It was designed for speeds of 20-25 knots. The Albacore was decommissioned in 1984, then paperwork, etc., was cleared so that the sub could be taken to Portsmouth. It was a major engineering feat to get it to its present location, an inlet near Market Street, Portsmouth, NH. After many mishaps, the Albacore was opened to the public in August, 1986
