    Description

Hotel Champernowne, Kittery Point, Maine, built in 1890 by Horace Mitchell. The four pictures show a progression in the construction of the hotel. First is the Daniel Austin house on the hotel site before the hotel was constructed, and the following three pictures show the Champernowne as it was first built and then with two additions. In 1920, John Mead Howells, a well-known architect, purchased the hotel and tore it down. He used the land to expand his property and build a summer home for his son.
