Kennebunk Enterprise

The Kennebunk Enterprise was a weekly newspaper published in Kennebunk, Maine between November 1904 and 1924. The Enterprise was notable for being the first woman-owned newspaper in Kennebunk, having been founded and published by Annie J. Crediford, also the town’s first female editor. Issues contain local news and events coverage within Kennebunk and the surrounding York County area as well as national stories of interest, local advertisements, obituaries, editorials, and social listings. Of special interest are full front-page color artworks printed in Christmas issues beginning in 1905 and present in most years through 1919. Easter issue artwork is present more sporadically beginning in 1908.

Kennebunk Free Library holds Kennebunk Enterprise issues from 1904 through 1920 in its historic newspaper collection. KFL is pleased to have made this publication available digitally to the public having been enabled to do so with funding provided through a Maine Humanities Council Bicentennial Grant awarded in 2020, and via partnerships with Osher Map Library for digitization and with the Maine State Library for hosting.
