Description

The Bangor Industrial Spur, now part of I-395 stretch between Bangor and Brewer, started with a 2.5 mile segment of four lane highway extending from Outer Hammond Street to Main Street in Bangor. When the road was dedicated in October, 1959, it was only the second completed portion of Maine's designated interstate system to enter into service - the first being a nine-mile stretch of highway between Freeport and Brunswick that opened in 1957. By 1960, an additional four miles of highway opened to traffic in Bangor.
