Description

Historical Photographs taken by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Group of photos identified as "Construction". Photo identified as "Among Fishways completed recently is the new concrete structure at Oquossic Dam on the Rangeley River in Franklin County. The fishway cuts through the timber dam owned by the Union Water Power Company of Lewiston. Landlocked salmon and Eastern brook trout will benefit by easier passage up and dowbstream during spawning runs. Consisting of 14 pools, the fishway includes a gate at the head end to control water flow. A new concrete spillway was added to offset the portion removed by cutting through the dam. Other fishways completed recently include those at upper and middle dams on Richardson Lake in Northern Oxford County, which were designed and built by Union Water Power Company.".
