The Maine State Library is on the hunt for historical French language newspapers published in Maine for a digitization project aimed at preservation and online access of rare titles from the past.

The project builds on the work of the Franco-American Programs at the University of Maine to research and identify holdings of French language newspapers throughout New England. As part of their work, staff from the Franco-American Programs identified at least 33 French language newspapers that were published in Maine – only about half of those titles, however could be located in a library, historical society, archive or museum collection.

How you can help!

If you have any issues of the following titles, we would love to hear from you. Your papers may help us fill in important gaps in the historical record of Maine’s Franco-American past. Call the Maine State Library at 207-287-5600 or send us an email with details about newspapers that can help us with this project
