Description
These materials document the Farmingdale Planning Board’s 1980 effort to develop a town-wide zoning ordinance and revise the town’s shoreland zoning regulations. Draft ordinance sections address permitted and conditional land uses in resource protection, rural, limited residential, and general purpose districts; dimensional requirements for lots and buildings; and development standards concerning erosion control, noise, parking, signs, sanitation, drainage, traffic, and water quality. Additional sections establish proposed procedures for permitting, enforcement, appeals, variances, and conditional use review, and define terms used in the ordinance. An August 1980 planning memorandum identifies deficiencies in the existing shoreland zoning ordinance relative to state guidelines and recommends revisions concerning agriculture, campgrounds, vegetation clearing, structural setbacks, flood protection, and timber harvesting. Accompanying correspondence describes plans for neighborhood meetings and subsequent Town Meeting consideration, documenting the proposed regulations before public review and possible adoption.
