Description
The film was most likely created by Clarence McKay in October 1955 and features Commissioner Carl J. Broggi providing an update on the newly-formed Maine Department of Development of Industry and Commerce. The agency replaced the former Maine Development Commission earlier that year.
Commissioner Broggi was nominated by Governor Muskie for the post and confirmed by the legislature in October of 1955. Louis Shapel was brought in around the same time to serve as a consultant to help with the reorganization. Shapel appears at the end of the clip to ask Broggi to respond to concerns about whether or not he could be impartial in his efforts to attract business to all regions of the state given Broggi's most recent service as an economic developer in Sanford, Maine.
Shapel went on to lead the agency following Broggi's sudden death in March 1956.
