Description
The purpose of this document is to present a general summary and profile of the current status of Maine's economy as well as a brief description of the geophysical and demographic characteristics of the state. The overall objective is to provide a basic frame of reference for subsequent evaluative and formulative efforts to derive and define a broad economic development strategy and plan of action.
Statistics presented in the tables contained in this document reflect the most current data available. It is anticipated that as more recent data becomes available, these statistics will be revised.
The discussion contained in this document is limited essentially to an interpretation of the data presented. No attempt is made to evaluate the significance of the data or to identify particular weaknesses or strengths of various sectors of the State's economy. This subsequent effort will be presented in a separate document.
