The 9th Maine Infantry was organized in Augusta, Maine and mustered in for a three-year enlistment on September 22, 1861 and mustered out of service July 13, 1865. During that time, the regiment of 1,973 had 462 wounded, 182 men killed, and 239 died of disease.

- Drewry's Bluff, VA - May 4-16, 1864
- Bermuda Hundred, VA - May 17 - June 14, 1864
- Cold Harbor, VA - May 31 - June 12, 1864
- Petersburg Seige, VA - June 1864 - May 1865
- Deep Bottom, VA - August 13-20, 1864
- New Market Heights, VA - September 28-30, 1864
- Darbytown Road, VA - October 13, 1864
