Light Artillery - 5th Maine Battery

 

The 5th Maine Battery was mustered in for three years' seven months service on December 4, 1861, and was mustered out on July 6, 1865. Of the men enrolled in the regiment, 15 were killed or died of wounds and 28 died of disease.

They served in the following engagements:

  • Thoroughfare Gap, VA - August 28, 1862
  • Manassas / Second Bull Run, VA - August 29, 1862
  • Fredericksburg, VA - December 13, 1862
  • Chancellorsville, VA - May 3, 1863
  • Gettysburg, PA - July 1, 1863
  • Rappahannock Bridge, VA - November 7, 1863
  • Wilderness, VA - May 5, 1864
  • Spotsylvania, VA - May 7, 1864
  • North Anna, VA - May 23, 1864
  • Cold Harbor, VA - May 31, 1864
  • Petersburg, VA - June 15, 1864
  • Winchester, VA - September 19, 1864
  • Fishers Hill, VA - September 22, 1864
  • Cedar Creek, VA - October 19, 1864
