The 3rd Maine Battery was mustered in for three years' six months service on December 11, 1861, and was mustered out on June 17, 1865. They were assigned as Company M, 1st Maine Heavy Artillery on March 28, 1863. Of the men enrolled in the regiment, 3 were killed or died of wounds and 14 died of disease. They served in the following engagements:
- Petersburg, VA - June 15, 1864
