The 29th Maine Regiment was mustered in for three years' service on December 17, 1863 and were mustered out on June 21, 1866. Companies A & D of the 10th Maine incorporated into the regiment. Of the men enrolled in the regiment, 42 were killed and 195 died of disease.
They served in the following engagements:
- Sabine Cross Roads, LA - April 8, 1864
- Pleasant Hill, LA - April 9, 1864
- Cane River Crossing, LA - April 23, 1864
- Winchester, VA - September 19, 1864
- Fishers Hill, VA - September 21, 1864
- Cedar Creek, VA - October 19, 1864
