The 24th Maine Regiment was mustered in for nine months' service on October 16, 1862, and were mustered out on August 25, 1863. They served in the defense of the Gulf at Port Hudson, LA. from May 26 - July 9, 1863. Of the men enrolled in the regiment, 1 was killed and 190 died of disease.
