Description
Maine Insane Hospital Bill for James Mitchell, November 1864 details expenses owed by the Cumberland Overseers of the Poor to the Maine Insane Hospital for the care and board of James Mitchell, a Cumberland pauper. Mitchell was a patient at the Maine Insane Hospital from 1853 until at least 1873. The 1855 annual Cumberland Overseers report notes “there has been no improvement in his mind and we think that he never will be any better.” Bills from the Maine Insane Hospital included costs for board, treatment, and clothing.
