Description
Shipping receipt from the schooner Highland Chief, sailing from Portland to either Washington or Baltimore. The printed form with logo of Francis Blake, 56 & 58 Exchange St. Portland and handwritten details in margin “Five running lay days to discharge cargo. Capt. to call at Ft. Monroe for orders and for all time detained there the five lay days to discharge cargo and for each and every day detained beyond five lay days twelve and one half cents per ton per day is to be paid.” On the backside there is handwritten stating “Bill of Lading, Schooner Highland Chief Dec 24 1862 Potatoes from Portland
