Description
Photograph of WWI veterans in Augusta, Maine on May 7, 1919. Image was captured in front of the Augusta YMCA. A Kennebec Journal news account from May 8, 1919 notes that the YMCA hosted a banquet in honor of the veterans on May 7.
The image was donated to the Maine State Library by David Fletcher. His uncle, Freemont Fletcher, is the 12th person in from the left side in the first row. Following the war, Freemont established a drugstore in Augusta but died at age 24 from his wartime exposure to mustard gas.
