A Transcript of the Writings of Joseph J. Sager..., Augusta, ME, 1835

    Joseph J. Sager

A Transcription of the Writings of Joseph J. Sager, while Confined in the Jail at Augusta, ME., Who was Tried for the Murder of His Wife Before the Supreme Court, Oct. Term, 1834. Condemned and Executed, January 2, 1835.

As stated in the Advertisement, on page 2 "... his relatives and friends, in compliance with earnest solicitation of several of their friends who have seen his writings, publish a copy of them." It continues, "the whole of his writings which relate to the death of his wife, and the state of his mind while in prison, will be published, not only what is original, but also what he selected from books, as two sermons and many passages of scripture; this will serve to show not only what he said, but also what he did, or how he employed his time; his selections, of themselves, are well worthy of publication and perusal."

This digital version is comprised of an original and photocopy as the Maine State Library's original had missing pages.

The transcriber's name is not known. They refer to themselves as, "The Transcriber." (page 2). There is no publisher.
