Inscription of the text:

An Act directing before whom all Judicial and Civil Officers shall be qualified where not otherwise provided for in the Constitution
BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, That the Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court, the Attorney General, Secretary, Treasurer, Adjutant General and Quarter Master General, shall take the oaths or affirmations required by the Constitution, before the Governor and Council, when in session, and in their recess before any two members of the Council; and that every other person elected, appointed or commissioned to any Judicial, Executive, Military or other office, under this State, shall take and subscribe the same, before two of the Council, or before any two magistrates commissioned by the Governor for that purpose; excepting in such cases where the Constitution has otherwise provided, and excepting also military officers, who may take and subscribe said oaths before Military Officers any Justice of the Peace, superior Field or General Officer of the Militia.
