Description
Most Of The 850 Soldiers Of The 1st Maine Heavy Artillery Regiment Are From Penobscot River Towns On June 18, 1864 Led By Colonel Daniel Chaplin, Of Bangor, They Charge An Entrenched Position On The Outskirts Of Petersburg Virginia. Within Ten Minutes 632 Of Those Men Are Killed Or Wounded The Greatest Loss Of Men In A Single Battle Of Any Union Regiment In The Civil War.
