Description
Myron Avery, of Lubec, has a vision of a wilderness walkway from Maine to Georgia. With help from the Civilian Conservation Corps and volunteers, the Appalachian Trail, nearly 2,100 miles long, is completed in August 1937. The trail begins on Mount Katahdin, and includes 281 miles of Maine forest.
