Description
Concerned that the nearest military supplies are 200 miles away in Watertown, Massachusetts, Ohio Senator, and future President, William Henry Harrison, proposes in March 1827, that the Federal Government build an arsenal in Augusta. Located on the east side of the Kennebec River, the arsenal takes three years, $90,000 and tons of Hallowell granite to complete.
