Description
Architect Charles Bulfinch is commissioned in 1828 to design Maine's Capitol. It is a building of hammered granite, 150 feet long and 50 feet wide with a projected arcade and colonnade in front facing east toward the Kennebec River. Construction is estimated at $80,000, but the finished building cost $139,000.
