Description
Born in 1782 in Sherborn. Ware studied law at Harvard University. As well as practicing law, Ware worked as a newspaper editor both in Boston and in Portland. Ware moved to Portland in 1817. He served as secretary of state from 1820 to 1822. In 1882 Ware was nominated to the US Federal District Court, where he served until 1844, one of the longest serving judges. He lived in Portland until his death in 1873
