Description
This reminiscence by Helen Haggan Duval recounts life at the Fogg Farm near Long Pond in the Jackman, Maine, area during the early twentieth century. Duval describes her family’s connection to the farm, which her parents Barney and Sarah Haggan managed beginning in 1902, and provides details about farm labor, livestock, food production, household arrangements, schooling, transportation, and community life. The account includes memories of hired hands, trips across Long Pond to supply woods camps, visits from workers at Long Pond, and the family’s eventual move to Jackman in 1915. A hand-drawn map of the Long Pond area and the location of Fogg Farm is included.
