Description
Letter from Sylvester Baker writing to his mother from the 20th Maine Regiment camp near Hatcher's Run, Virginia. The battle of Hatcher's Run, also known as Dabney's Mill, Armstrong's Mill, Rowanty Creek, and Vaughn Road, fought February 5–7, 1865, was one in a series of Union offensives during the Siege of Petersburg.
"I had my picture taken [?} day so you can see how I look after being in the serves [sic] two years and half and seeing some rough times."
