Description
Diary (1 of 2) kept by Sumner Ansel Holway of Bingham, Somerset County, Maine during the year 1862 in which he records his daily activity as a private in the 1st Maine Cavalry, Company H.
Holway writes of his experiences in Virginia, including the battles of Middletown, 2nd Bull Run, Antietam, Chancellorsville, Brandy Station, and the Battle of Aldie, where he received a leg wound that removed him from the war.
