Letter from Mrs. Henry E. Dexter to Adjutant General Hodsdon inquiring about her missing husband. Henry Dexter was noted as missing in action in Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Farnham's report to the Adjutant General in July 1863.

"Dear Sir,

I have not heard from my dear husband for a long time and write to you to know whether he was killed or wounded in the battle at Gettysburg he was in the 16th Maine Regiment Company A his name was Henry E. Dexter if you will let me know you will greatly oblige
