Description

Photo 3: Graded beds in the Kittery Formation along the shoreline in York, Maine. A graded bed (two of which are well shown) has a light gray metasandstone lower part that grades upward into a dark metashale, which is in sharp contact with the overlying metasandstone. These beds top to the right of the photo and are inclined because of folding. The graded bed marked by the arrow is approximately eight centimeters thick.
