28th Maine Regiment

 

The 28th Maine Regiment was mustered in for nine months' service on October 18, 1862 and were mustered out on August 31, 1863. They served in the defense of the Gulf at Port Hudson, Louisiana from May 26 - July 9, 1863, and at Donaldsonville, Louisiana on June 28, 1863. Of the men enrolled in the regiment, 11 were killed and 143 died of disease.
