The 15th Maine Regiment was mustered in for three years' service on January 20, 1862 and were mustered out on July 5, 1866. Of the men enrolled in the regiment, 5 were killed or died of wounds and 343 died of disease.
They served in the following engagements:
- Aransas Pass - November 17, 1863
- Fort Esperanza, TX - November 27, 1863
- Sabine Cross Roads - April 8, 1864
- Pleasant Hill, LA - April 12, 1864
- Cane River Crossing - April 23, 1864
- Mansura, LA - May 16, 1864
