Description
Letter from Joshua L. Chamberlain to Governor Samuel Cony recommending certain officers for promotion; discusses recent regimental activities and his pleasure at being relieved from court martial duty. Written before Spotsylvania Courthouse battle.
"I write this as we are lying in line of battle behind our rifle-pit works not more than 600 or 800 yards from the enemy's works."
