This publication was prepared by Noah Barker, land agent for the State Land Office for the purposes of answering "the numerous calls and inquiries addressed to the Land Office, for information respecting the quality, situation, and extent of our settling lands, the terms and conditions of sale, the character of the soil, climate of the country, condition of roads, distances to market, (and) modes of conveyance." Printed by Bartlett & Burr of Bangor, Maine in 1858.
