Description
Children between 4 & 21 Years of Age, Cumberland, Me., 1898 was compiled on April 1, 1898, presumably by Oscar R. Sturdivant, Cumberland Superintendent of Schools. The list, which gives the names and ages of 434 students, is presented by school district, and includes the scholars in District 1 (Cumberland Foreside), District 2 (Tuttle Road/Middle Road), District 3 (Cumberland Center), District 4 (West Cumberland/Shawtown), District 5 (Outer Blanchard Road), District 7 (Winn Road), District 8 (Chebeague Island West End), District 9 (Chebeague Island East End), and those on Hope Island and Ministerial Island. Maine law in 1898 required school districts to supply the State Superintendent of Schools with a list of the students in their schools.
